Your Voice, Your Vote: Why Voting Matters More Than Ever!
Hey, amazing readers! Welcome back to Couture Talks with Dulce, and today, we’re diving into something super important—the power we have to shape the future through voting! 🎉 Whether you’re a first-time voter (just like me!) or someone looking for some fresh insights, this post is for YOU.
Why Vote?
Elections aren’t just a routine thing, they’re a chance for you to speak up and be heard! Whether it’s for president, governor, or even your local city council, your vote is a powerful way to influence what happens in your community, state, and country. Every vote, including yours, helps decide what kind of future we want to create.
Pretty awesome, right?
Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it won’t happen if we don’t speak up. Think of voting like hopping on the bus to a brighter, more inclusive future. By casting your vote, you’re pushing for progress, equality, and the world we all want to live in. 🌎✨
What’s Going On in 2024?
The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election is just around the corner, and if you’re like most of us, you’ve probably seen a ton of political content floating around online. But if you’re still wondering who’s running, what they stand for, or how to vote, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Below is a quick breakdown of the major candidates and their key policies.
Who’s Running?

Kamala Harris: Harris is currently serving as Vice President, is running on a platform that’s all about progress. Her key priorities? Social justice, climate action, healthcare reform, and immigration. Harris is determined to build a future that protects civil rights, supports working families, and fights for a healthier planet. If you're looking for bold policy changes, Harris is pushing for that vision. 🌱
Donald Trump: He is back and running again with a focus on many of the same themes from his first term. His top priorities include the economy, stricter immigration controls, and cutting federal regulations. Trump wants to see the U.S. return to energy independence and a strong manufacturing base. He’s all about reducing taxes and increasing border security.
What Are Their Policies?
Kamala Harris’ Key Policies
Healthcare: Harris wants to cap insulin prices at $35 and limit out-of-pocket medical costs to $2,000 for everyone (not just seniors!). She’s also working on lowering drug prices across the board.
Reproductive Rights: A major part of her campaign is restoring and protecting reproductive freedoms. Harris has been vocal about opposing any national abortion bans and wants to pass laws to safeguard women’s rights over their bodies. She also supports access to IVF (Kamala Harris for President).
Climate Action: Harris advocates for stronger environmental protections and has a history of holding polluters accountable. She played a key role in the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate action bill in U.S. history, and wants to keep pushing for clean energy, lower energy costs, and fighting climate change 🌍 (POLITICO).
Wages & Workers: She’s pushing to raise the minimum wage, give fair pay to tipped workers, and improve family leave policies. Harris is also strongly pro-union and committed to protecting workers’ rights.
Civil Rights: Harris wants to pass the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ+ Americans from discrimination in employment, housing, and healthcare, and reform the criminal justice system to make it fairer for everyone.
Donald Trump’s Key Policies
Immigration & Border Security: Trump is focused on continuing to build the border wall and enforcing stricter immigration laws, including deporting undocumented immigrants and cracking down on sanctuary cities.
Economic Growth: He’s all about cutting taxes and rolling back regulations to boost U.S. manufacturing. His policies include a 20% tariff on most imports, with an even higher rate for goods from China. However, experts warn this could lead to higher prices for consumers (The Washington Monthly).
Energy Independence: Trump aims to expand domestic oil, gas, and coal production by reversing Biden-era climate policies. He wants to make the U.S. energy independent again by reducing reliance on foreign energy sources.
Education Reform: Trump supports expanding school choice and homeschooling while opposing vaccine mandates in schools. He also wants to encourage more prayer in schools and ban certain curriculum items that he believes promote "critical race theory" (POLITICO).
Social Issues: He’s pledging to restrict transgender rights, including banning gender-affirming surgeries for minors and preventing trans women from participating in women's sports. He would also reinstate the military ban on transgender service members (PolitiFact).
Polling & Voting Trends, Who’s Winning?
The race is close! According to the Marist Poll, here’s what the polling data shows:
Trump is leading with white voters (53%), men (57%), and older generations.
Harris is doing well with non-white voters (60%), women (58%), and younger voters, especially Gen Z and Millennials (53%).
Key Issues Driving Voters to the Polls
Here are the top issues shaping the 2024 election:
Economy: 81% of voters say the economy is a critical issue influencing their votes. This includes concerns about inflation, job growth, and economic stability (Pew Research Center).
National Security: Nearly 35% of voters also rank national security and terrorism as top priorities, reflecting ongoing concerns about global stability and domestic safety (CivicScience).
Abortion & Reproductive Rights: Following the Roe v. Wade decision, 74% of voters rank this issue high. (Pew Research Center).
Climate Change: Environmental policies are a priority for younger voters.
Healthcare: For many, healthcare tops the list, with about 43% of Americans citing it as their most pressing concern. Affordable healthcare and drug prices continue to be a major focus (CivicScience).
If you’re ready to cast your ballot, here’s how to do it:
In-Person Voting: You can vote at your local polling place on Election Day (usually November 5). Check your local polling hours and location online.
Early Voting: Don’t want to wait until Election Day? Many states allow you to vote early in person. This way, you can avoid the lines and get your vote in ahead of time.
Mail-in/Absentee Voting: If you can’t make it to a polling place, request a mail-in or absentee ballot. Just make sure to apply for it early, and either mail it back or drop it off at a designated ballot drop box.
Each state has its own rules and deadlines, so make sure to check those out beforehand. For more info on how to vote, where your polling place is, or how to get a mail-in ballot, check out CanIVote.org.

This article isn’t here to tell you who to vote for—that’s totally up to you! But what I can tell you is this: your vote is your voice. And it’s one of the most powerful ways you can make a difference. Whether you care about the environment, healthcare, education, or anything in between, voting is your way to make sure your priorities are heard.
